Changi Cove x Birthday Staycay

Processed with VSCO with hb1 preset

Had a really lovely staycation at Changi Cove during beebz’s birthday. Being lazy bums, we pretty much spent most of the time hanging out in our cozy room and only heading out to fill our tummies. Will totally love to do this again soon!

What we really liked about Changi Cove is the staff, hands down. Happy faces and polite greetings before we even stepped through the main door. Check-in was a breeze and we’re off to a great start to our staycay!

Our room was just perfect. Great comfy bed (it’s super comfy), great view of the nature right outside our window, cute lounge chair to chill and swing in, movie channels, high-end L’occitane toiletries and even complimentary Nespresso capsules and chocolates!

Hello! Been feeling down and sick in the past 2 months. Maybe it was due to stress or something, I don’t really know… but all’s good now! December’s been a really kind month so far (in terms of work) and I can’t wait to jet off for holidays next week.

So recently, I’ve visited a few ‘nature’ places and thought to share, as I felt that it is one of the best natural ways to improving one’s health and well-being.

Lee Kong Chian Natural History Museum

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Finally time for Adventure Saturdays! We visited the new Lee Kong Chian Natural History Museum (LKCNHM) located in NUS on Saturday afternoon. Lemme share some photos and our experience there!

There happened to be a whale fund raiser on the day that we visited thus we got 50% off admission tickets! Original price is $16 per adult, $9 for child, NSF and Seniors (rates for Singaporeans).

Singapore Night Festival

Processed with VSCOcam with hb1 preset

Visited the Singapore Night Festival with baby last weekend. It was kinda crowded and the weather was so so warm… we did enjoy some of the exhibits though, which I will share below.

We started off from School of The Arts (right beside The Cathay) where they had this interesting ‘paper flower’ that glowed in the dark thing when shone with a UV flashlight. The queue was way too long and messy so we just squeezed our way to the front and looked at others doing it.

We then followed the crowd to the National Museum where there’s the light and animation show outside the building. That part wasn’t too bad; we enjoyed the animation pretty much.

Adventure Saturday – Bollywood Veggies & Neo Tiew Estate

Before adventure Saturday started, we headed to M1 to see if the phone I wanted was in stock… and yet again, the chio baby pink Samsung A5 is not here yet.

So after looking around, I decided to get the S5 instead cause the specs seem better… plus I cannot wait anymore.

The salesperson told me I had to exhaust the battery before charging it fully. So I decided to use it to take photos for later since the photo quality is not bad!

We headed to Bollywood Veggies after lunch. It’s a farm in the Kranji area. First impressions… it was way bigger than we imagined!

I didn’t have a hat on or anything and thought that my rosacea skin could actually survive the scorching sun, what a joke..

5 mins later at the farm..

TY: “I go get the mosquito patch okay. Stupid mozzies killin’ usssss”

Me: “Okay b, can you bring the umbrella too?? So hot gonna die!”

TY: “Huh…. really ah. Where got people use umbrella at the farm one….. ok ok.”

Bollywood Veggies_singapore

Yeah, I was the only one with an umbrella at the farm. #creatingtrends

Ok lah, given that the entry fee was only $2 each, I’d say it’s pretty worth it to learn and see so many different types of trees and plants. We spent maybe 1-2 hours there exploring the farm. Notable attractions are the banana walk and the lotus root pond.

They also have a cafe called the Poison Ivy bistro which serves up a local fare. I wouldn’t mind trying if we weren’t already full. Menu here. We had red bean ice cream which was pretty nice.

I’ll recommend this place as family friendly but please bring mosquito spray!! Got so many bites it wasn’t even funny. Seems to be a popular place with angmohs too.

Neo Tiew Estate

After the farm visit, we were on the way back, talking bout visiting Neo Tiew Estate next time, and then we drove right past it! Made a u-turn and headed for the abandoned Neo Tiew Estate.

I first read about it on blogger Joy Loh’s page and been wanting to visit. Who knew it was so near Bollywood Veggies?!

Will you dare to go inside?

The gate was open so we drove in. An abandoned HDB estate out of nowhere, with just a few blocks of flats, a wet market and a playground. Spooky much?

Theories on the net said that residents moved out overnight because of some haunting, and the residents just grabbed their things and left, leaving behind all the furniture and things in the house intact. But, after researching, seems that this place was en-bloc and the residents relocated to Jurong side.

We explored a little… and suddenly this cold gust of wind started blowing there’s really nothing much lah.

It’s been refurbished and is currently used as a military exercise site. It’s still quite fascinating and I love how nostalgic everything looked… just like the olden days.

So of course I took many photos and am excited to blog bout this right.. now, let me tell you the story of the missing photos.

Samsung has this transfer app thingy where you can basically transfer everything on your old phone (S3) to your new one (S5) very conveniently. We got home and settled down to watch a movie. I just selected all the folders on my old phone and hit ‘transfer‘. It took less than half an hour. Fast right?

But, I realised I just transferred all 5000++ photos from my S3 to my S5. Walau, now I’ve to go delete them slowly.. (if not, I’ll run outta space)

So the smartie bf suggested to factory restore it. And I agreed! (How could I…?!)

Only after factory restoring did I realise… the photos from Bollywood Vegg and Neo Tiew were in the S5!!!! How terribly smart! :(

I admit I was very upset and sulked about it for a long time. But I’m over it now. Afterall, the memories at the places we went to will always be kept in my heart. Would have liked the photos for remembrance though… girls will always be girls.

Till the next adventure Saturday… I’ll be sure to bring my cam out so nothing gets deleted accidentally this time.

P.s.. random: if you’re bored, go download the game The Battle Cats.
It’s super fun and the cats are so cute heh. XOXO

Adventure Saturday – Gardens by the Bay

We haven’t even explored most of the free gardens when it started drizzling. Zzzz.. Had no choice but to head to the observatories to take shelter. Decided that we might as well pay to go into the observatories since we’re already there.

I think it’d have been really pretty to be at at Gardens by the Bay with the Christmas lights at night. Oh wells, next year maybe…. Lezzgooooooo!

The Christmas decor was surprisingly… small. Just repeats of the same flowers and a place for people to take photos.

I could look at daisies the whole day. idk why but they just look so cheery and happy.

There’s a whole section on cactuses. Didn’t know there were so many varieties!

Some special ones we saw:

CLOUD FOREST

We were greeted by this towering waterfall at the entrance. The whole floor was wet cause it splatters. So cold we were freezing to death. You basically go up to the top level (level 7) and walk downwards, exploring the different types of plants at different altitudes.

We spent like 3-4 hrs at the free outdoor gardens and the two observatories. For $20/pax, I would say it’s quite worth it! I wish there were more signs & boards though; most of the time we don’t know what we’re looking at.

Hope to visit Gardens at night to see the beautiful lights the next time!

Date at the ACM & Concetto

???????????????????????????????Took some time off work on a Friday noon to spend some time with love. Decided to explore the Asian Civilisation Museum (ACM) and their China Mania exhibition!

There are quite a lot of things to see in the ACM. I have always been fascinated with objects from the past… the workmanship, the details. How do they do it with such limited tools at that point in time?

After about 2 hours of exploring every nook and cranny, we are finally done with our museum date :) The best part is that…. it’s free for Singaporeans. What are you waiting for? I wish there were more upcoming exhibitions for us to check out cause it’s definitely something different from the usual lunch-movie-cafe dates.
???????????????????????????????

We were getting really hungry so we headed towards The Cathay to try out Concetto for dinner! I didn’t know Concetto is under the Saveur Group till i googled for reviews on what’s good there.

Saveur serves affordable French food, while Concetto serves affordable Italian food. It’s design has a very whimsical industrial feel to it, which I thought was pretty cool.

Concetto Pasta $6.90
Chilled Capellini tossed in lobster oil & seaweed; served with crab and shrimp tartare, finished with lobster foam & ikura

The plating was beautiful, with a nice blend of colors. However, it tasted quite bad… way too fishy for our liking. The ingredients didn’t gel and the flavors are overwhelming.

???????????????????????????????

Crab Risotto ($13.90)
Arborio rice cooked in shellfish broth & crab meat; served with crab meat tartare, brussel sprouts & crispy rice cracker

There was hardly any crab and it had a pretty fishy taste to it too. The risotto was too overcooked as well.

???????????????????????????????

Funghi Risotto ($10.90)
Arborio rice cooked in mushroom broth and mixed mushrooms; served with enoki tempura, thinly sliced king oyster mushroom & red wine pickled shallots

The only redeeming dish of the night. Flavors were good and the mushroom smells really fragrant. One thing though – I’m not a big eater, but felt that the portion was too small even for a girl.
??????????????????????

The service staffs were polite and generally helpful. Concetto did not impress me as much as Saveur did on my first visit. I don’t think I will go back to visit again after the disappointing experience.
