Seoul-searching (Day 1 and 2)

Finally found some time to blog bout the recent trip to Seoul :)

Travelling with my cuzzie for the first time and we flew via Scoot (only cause they had promo fares but it wasn’t exactly cheap nor worth the transit waiting time so don’t bother).

Our main focus areas were food, cafe-hopping & shopping so I’m gonna share some of the areas we went to and where to find good bargains!

Sleepy faces early in the morning X_X

After 7 long hours, we arrived around 10pm in Seoul! We booked Hotel Sky to sleep in for the first night cause the city is quite far away and a cab will cost us around $90-$130.

After checking in, we headed out for food cause we were so very hungry. Most places were already closed except for the mini-mart. But to our surprise we found…

FRIED CHICKEN AND BEER. DAEBAK!

Grabbed a mocha and took the hotel shuttle back to Incheon Airport to take the airport bus to the city.

Bus tickets are at 10,000 KRW (S$12) each

Finally got to the hotel we’re staying at for the rest of the trip – Best Western Premier Kukdo Hotel located near Myeong Dong. I love it cause it’s so spacious and the design is fab, PLUS there’s this huge mirror for us to camwhore with (I LIKEEEEEE)

Also, it’s like 2 mins away from Euljiro 4(sa)-ga station which makes it convenient for us to travel around for the next few days.

T-Money cards are very useful so get one on your first day there! We bought ours at the mini-mart right outside our hotel.

Myeong Dong

A little about Myeong-dong..
Myeong-dong (명동) is basically one of the shopping districts in Seoul. It’s basically a major shopping belt where there are stores lining the street, and also several major departmental stores like Lotte Department Store, Shinsegae Department Store, Myeong-dong Migliore, Noon Square and M Plaza in the area too!

Getting there
Myeong-dong Station (Seoul Subway Line 4), Exit 5, 6, 7, or 8.
Euljiro Il-ga Station (Seoul Subway Line 2), Exit 5

We were really hungry so the first thing to do was to hunt for food. Settled at a restaurant called 烧肉明洞 and shared an Army Stew for lunch. The taste was great but the bill came up to about 21,000 krw (S$25) for two, which was pretty expensive for the amount of food we got. And anyway, the people in the shop could speak Chinese so it may not really be an authentic Korean restaurant.

We got a map of the Myeong Dong area from the shop. Makes navigation much easier cause this place is huge!

And despite it being so cold, we saw a long queue at… a 2000 KRW ice-cream stall. And we thought to try too!

It was really cold, so we headed back to the hotel to rest up before meeting Susy and Ed at night!

We headed to Hongdae (홍대) for dinner with Su and Ed, who were also in Korea for their pre-wedding photoshoot!

Hongdae (홍대)

A little about Hongdae-ap
Hongdae-ap (the area in front of Hongik University) is a neighborhood known for its youthful and romantic ambience, underground cultures, and freedom of self-expression. Unique cafes, cozy galleries, accessory stores, fashion shops, live cafés and clubs, art markets, and gourmet eateries make this a popular hangout for locals in their 20s and 30s and a fascinating place to walk around.

Getting there
Hongik University Station (Seoul Subway Line 2 or Airport Railroad)

They brought us to this yummy BBQ place called New Mapogalmaegi. I wish I can tell you how to go there but it’s too confusing. Just walk around in Hongdae and you should be able to find it.

First time trying out authentic Korean BBQ with fluffy egg (YES, IT’S REALLY FLUFFY & NICE)
Thank you for the dinner treat you two! :)

Btw, I found an authentic korean restaurant BBQ with egg in Singapore too, read my review here

Shopped around the bustling streets of Hongdae for a bit. And spotted streetside stores that I always see in k-dramas… Finally got the chance to try them out! Cause it’s so so cold out there, the spicy dobokki and fishcake soup was a god-sent.

The night ended with frozen yoghurt! Many many cafes in Hongdae so we just popped into a random one. Didn’t taste too bad but it’s about the same price as Singapore. But the decor of the place is really pretty so whatever goes.

Bought a thick sweater in Hongdae. Wrong choice.. should have gotten a windbreaker.
