En Japanese Dining Bar

Tried En Japanese Dining Bar recently and I loved it! We decided on the buffet cause it’s free flow buffet and shabu-shabu for just $48++ / pax.

Love the details of the restaurant – giving off a really homely feeling. The staff kindly helped to turn up the air-conditioning when we told them that we’re cold. I especially loved the details of the menu. It reminds me of kimono prints – very intricate.

Pi Tan Tofu
Chilled tofu with century egg sauce

One of the best Pi Tan tofu I have tried thus far. The tofu is bouncy and soft and the century egg sauce is not too thick nor overpowering the freshness of the tofu. We ordered this as an appetiser and had another portion towards the end of the buffet cause this is simply too good to resist. I didn’t like the ginger in it though, but you can simply request for the staff to take it out in your order.

Sashimi Platter
Maguro, Salmon, Tai(Snapper), Mekajiki (sword fish) & Kanpachi(yellow tail)

The sashimi is delightful and fresh. The cut was good and each piece was sizeable but not too much of a mouthful.

Ebi Tenpura
Shitake Mushroom Tenpura

Glorious tempura is always a must for me in Japanese dining. It’s not just fried food. It’s food that’s fried to perfection, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. It’s never oily or make you feel unhealthy. And this tempura is quite perfect in my opinion. Very tasty yet very light on oiliness.

Beef Carpaccio
Sliced Raw beef with Ponzu Sauce

This is one of the best dishes of the night. When I saw it for the first time, I couldn’t imagine myself eating it. I only take raw fish but never raw meats. Lisa asked me to try it at least once and I am glad I took the plunge. It was delicious! The ponzu sauce was savoury / salty and when matched with that beef, it was divine. One of my favorite dishes of the night.

Wafu Spaghetti
Cod Roe Sauce Spaghetti

The spaghetti is cooked to perfection and the cod roe sauce is rather unique. It’s very creamy and easy to eat. Great to share amongst a few others as it can get a little filling if eaten alone.

Agedashi Tofu
Deep fried tofu (4 pcs)

The tofu was fried to perfection but I thought the sauce could be a little more flavorful. It tasted pretty bland for me.

Tsukune
Chicken Meat Balls

This was also one of my favorite dishes of the night. The meatball was bouncy and seared perfectly. I love that they were a little burnt on the surface.

Free flow Shabu Shabu

We had at least 3 plates of this. The beef was fresh and thinly sliced. Nothing bad to complain about for this one, though I didn’t like the soup which we use to cook the beef in.

Pros:
– Good variety of dishes
– Good quality of dishes
– Raw fish/meat was fresh
– Good and timely service
– No missing dishes

Cons:
– Location is quite out of the way
– Place is rather small and not so suitable for huge groups/parties

Overall, we enjoyed our buffet at En Japanese Dining. There was a good variety in the menu and will revisit again.
