Visited Beng Thin Hoon Kee Restaurant at OCBC Centre to celebrate B’s dad’s birthday.
Beng Thin is one of the most established Hokkien restaurants in Singapore which serves authentic Hokkien fare.
A few of their most popular dishes would be the Beng Thin Duck Salad, Traditional Cold Dish, Herbal Duck, Beng Thin Suckling Pig, Crab Meat fish Maw Soup and Fujian Fried Noodles. Their must try dessert is the Sweet Yam with Pumpkin and Gingko Nuts!
The food is comparable to most Chinese restaurants at this price range. The owner was quite friendly and hands-on.
We started with a traditional cold dish platter. The portion was good enough to be shared comfortably for around 8 – 10 paxs. The dishes in the cold dish included jellyfish, spring roll, wrapped beancurd skin, cold prawns, a fried egg & mixed veg and century eggs with ginger slices.
One of my favorites – Kong Ba Bao! I always thought of this as a teochew dish but I guess I must have been wrong. The meat wasn’t too oily and the buns were of the right texture, not too soft after steaming.
This herbal duck is absolutely perfection. It has mushrooms, sea cucumbers and the duck is cooked to perfection. I finished everything including the gravy.
For desserts, we had the Sweet Yam with Pumpkin and Gingko Nuts (or what is commonly known as ‘Or Ni’). A tad too oily for me but it’s a once-in-a-while indulgence so just let it go. No photo for this cause we dug into the food straight!
